Most foaming machines now produce polyurethane foam, a porous material with a large surface area that ignites easily. Besides strictly controlling ignition sources, careless handling of large polyurethane foam blocks can accumulate chemical reaction heat and cause spontaneous combustion. Therefore, fire prevention and firefighting are critical in production. The risk of spontaneous combustion comes mainly from polyurethane block foam, especially freshly foamed blocks.
In plant layout, keep sufficient fire-safety distance between the foaming workshop, the cutting workshop and the polyurethane foam storage area. If they are interconnected, fire doors must be installed. The storage area and racks should be equipped with automatic sprinkler fire protection and other adequate extinguishing facilities, and other production workshops should also have adequate firefighting measures to prevent irreparable losses.
